The northern lights on the Alabama Gulf Coast!
Nothing like throwing your gear and kids in the car at the last minute to photograph the sky for the first time because the northern lights are happening in south Alabama! Big thanks to my dear friend and talented photographer Mandy, owner of Perfect Balance Photography, for the last-minute tips.
It might not be a big deal to some people, but I think it was pretty amazing. How cool is it that millions of people got to see the northern lights in areas they probably haven't been viewed since 1857?!!
I listened to the wrong meteorologist and accepted that it wouldn't get this far south. I'm so glad they were wrong!! When I saw others posting, I was afraid I'd missed it but still had to try. I threw my gear and blankets for the kids in the car and we headed slightly north trying to get to somewhat dark skies. I wanted to get a little north of it the lights of Mobile so I went next to my mom's church in White House Fork. I knew there was an open field area they use for parking. For a while I thought l'd missed it, but a little after 1:00 am it became very active and we even got columns! The 3rd picture is at Buzbee Fish Camp lookup north up Bay Minette Creek. I was passing it about the time a tiktok live announced another wave would begin. The color of the sky looked so unreal that I pointed my camera north east for a few shots just to make sure my camera wasn't playing tricks on me.
